Viewed from a certain perspective, this individual symbolises a lot of what ails our nation…the poverty, the illiteracy, the miserable existence that compels some to survive by hauling heavy bags of water amidst traffic, with little regard for their safety.
Viewed from another perspective, they symbolise the die-hard and resilient nature of the mega-city dweller, those who dare to hope while there is yet breath in them. They cling, to the promise of a better life, no matter that there isn’t any clue as to how it might come about.
Their lithe, agile and resourceful ministrations quench the thirst of millions of Nigerians.
But then again, one cannot help but wonder if it weren’t as though we were drinking their sweat and their blood.
